Commodores’ Corner
At our last dinner at the Pointe Grille, Dan Machowski “AKA”, Dan the Knot Man, gave us all some simple, yet important lessons on knots we all need to know, including, docking techniques and how to pick up lines when docking. Hope everyone who attended is able to retain some of what Dan was showing us with his knot skills. Thanks again to Dan for another evening of entertaining and helpful knot tying lessons.
We have made it through the summer, and the later part has been very hot. If you missed the Scavenger Hunt, you missed one heck of a party! The location was excellent with a nice breeze, acceptable temperature and a great water view with no insects. Everyone that participated in the Scavenger Hunt had a good time. Those who attended the party enjoyed the excellent BBQ and other great foods that accompanied it.
Thanks to Art Peterson, Jack Navin, Terry & Jim Beach and Wayne Crews (chef) and everyone who helped with obtaining prizes for the event and anyone else who helped make this event successful! Special thanks to Jack and Al on the choice of location.
Planning is beginning for next year, and we are looking for members who are interested in giving back to the club a year of your time to be an officer. Please contact any board member if you are willing to become an officer next year. Remember, you only get out of a club, what you are willing to put into it.
Randy Draftz, owner/operator of Charleston Yachting gave a brief overview of how he came to Charleston and ended up with a new internet business, leaving the cold weather behind in Chicago for a warmer climate in the Lowcountry.
He described his business and the clients, the majority of which are sailors and that he caters to the sailors needs. He offers refitting and life lines refurbishng to name a few. Charleston Yachting is located in North Charleston, but can be reached online at www.charlestonyachting.com. Randy is also the Rear Commodore of Racing for Charleston Ocean Racing Association and invited everyone to come out and join in the fun of racing, even if you don't race your boat, you can usually be crew for others.
Hope to see you at the next club event!

Cruising Corner
It’s been an action packed cruising season this year with some of the largest turnouts we have had.
Memorial Day Weekend at Phantom Creek
33 00.495 N
079 28.913 W
We had a great turn out for this trip and we learned a lot about dinghy’s, engines and what needs to be registered and what doesn’t and what counts as a life vest. If you have any questions Ragtime and Duet can tell you all about it.
The sun setting over Impossible Dream!
Impossible Dream donates their cockpit for food and drink.
Labor Day Weekend at Moise Island
32 54.087 N
079 40.844 W
Our outing at Moise Island was tons of fun and we have more stories and pictures to prove it! Mihaska (Al and Barb) arrived late (as always) and just before rafting up, their dingy line caught the prop and stalled the engine. But have no fear, the CRYC dingy tugs were deployed from Knotless II, Vanishing point, and Duet and in no time pushed Mihaska right into her slip. We all joined up on Knotless II for drinks and a guitar serenade from Tony and Al. The following day we headed out to the inlet to walk the beach and in the evening grilled on the island and finished up dinner with Ice Cream, Raspberries and Raspberry Liqueur! Vanishing Point and Duet headed out early Monday morning. Duet beat the storm and so would have Vanishing Point if Reg’s transmission kept working. Sea Otter (Phil and Anita) caught the fringes of the storm on the way home while Impossible Dream, Ragtime and Mihaska watched the storm pass to the south as their crews sipped Bloody Mary’s and cooled off in the water.
Quite the flotilla at Moise Dock. In total we had 9 boats show up.
Tony’s musical finesse with accompaniment by Al kept the others entertained.
“? I’ve been every where man, I’ve been every where ?”
Keep in mind there will be other “ad hoc” cruises as time and interest permit. Stay informed and check the website and join in if you can.

Scavenger Hunt Another Huge Success!
We held our Scavenger Hunt at the Cooper Estates Civic Club (CECC) picnic area on Shem Creek this year. What a great place and perfect weather conditions for a party. Shame on you if you missed it.
Brian & Bridget Hill walked away with first prize out of a field of 15 boats.
A large number and wide variety of prizes were contributed by 38 marine vendors that proved their commitment to serve our community. You are encouraged to shop them first for your boating needs. (Check our Web page for links to their web sites.) In fact, everyone that attended the BBQ received a prize again this year. Our hats are off to Jean-Marc, Mellisa, Reg, Priscilla, Al Emondi and Jack for a fine solicitation effort.
Wayne Crews performed his usual magic cooking the BBQ Pig. Although it seems impossible, he always seems to be able to better his last year’s best effort.
Terry Beach did it again! Wayne delivered the pig and Terry did all the rest of the food and beverages. Many thanks for another fantastic job this year.
Last, we received positive feed back from CECC for our clean up efforts after the party. Great Job!

Yacht Club Web Site
Since we are in the information age, having information isn’t a problem; the problem is sorting out what is useful. Reg Brown, our web master, has put together a superb web site for the club. It is a work in progress and your visitation to the site and comments will only help improve it. Give it a look and let us know what you think. You can email Reg with comments by sending an email to: isailcharleston@bellsouth.net.
