Commodore’s Corner

Well here we are almost half way through the year and I hope the weather is much better for the second half of the year.  I want to personally thank every one who helped with the Scavenger Hunt.  I think it was quite a success, even if the weather was not too cooperative.   It felt okay aboard the Knot Less II, thanks to Sandy and Bill.  We had a good turn out for the pig roast.  Tell Wayne Crews how much you liked it!  Again thank you!  Remember this club survives on its members.  Please help if you can.

We had some new members join, so please welcome Lorin and Leslie Lawrence.  I am sure the will enjoy all the comradely that I have enjoyed.

Everyone who missed the cruise to Moise Island  missed a lot of fun.  We had three boats and that’s what we needed … A fun time for all.  Don’t forget to ask Mickey why it takes 18 hours to get back to the Cooper River Marina.

We are looking forward to the cruise to Dataw.  The Club’s secretary will be on board the Knot Less II so I’ll have to behave.  Look forward to seeing some of you there.

Don’t forget to tell our sponsors for the Scavenger Hunt how much we appreciate their support.  The prizes were very nice.                                                                                    See you on the water.  If you have any questions please call me.

Thanks.

 Tony

Remember to bring your own main course and one side dish or dessert to share.  Join in the feasting (there is always an abundance of food) and great conversation and fun to be had.

So come and fill up on the tasty goodies others bring to share (the wide variety is amazing), as well as catch up on what has been going on with everyone since the last Potluck.

Scavenger Hunt – May 21

The 2005 Annual Scavenger Hunt and Pig Roast was held on May 21.  The turnout of members and guests produced yet another great time for everyone associated with CRYC.  Embracing the somewhat less than desirable morning weather conditions out on the harbor, the spirits of the challengers could not be dampened as they scurried from point to point to track down the smallest details on markers, buoys and boats to answer the scavengers questionnaire.   The enthusiasm continued as we all met back at Buzzard’s Roost for a bountiful meal and refreshments.  To say, “a good time was had by all,” would be a large understatement.

Our sponsors once again provided a highly valued collection of awards and drawing prizes for participants.  The competitor winners are....

1st place - Barb Rohrer & Al Emondi - MIHASKA - Certificate for OUPV Class - donated by SeaSchool

2nd place - Reg Brown & Mary Ellen Rogers - VANISHING POINT - Inflatable PFD - donated by Air-Sea Safety & Survival

3rd place - Greg Nicholas - WILLOW WIND - Handheld GPS - donated by West Marine

4th place - Sandy Leahy & Bill Nelson - onboard KNOTLESS - Handheld VHF - donated by BoatUS

5th place - Jim & Terry Beach - IGUANA - Wheeled Ice Chest - donated by Boaters World

6th place - Leslie & Lorin Lawrence - LOOC KEY BLUE - 2 Gal Motor oil - donated by Outboard Shop

This event is such a great cooperative effort of many members.  I appreciate the participation of this large contingent and personally would like to thank each and every one who had a part in making it happen.

Thank you,

Steve

Rear Commodore Steve Earnhardt
